Stendhal Festival Ltd develops opportunities for people to engage with the community and enhance their creative capacity. We work with both artists and audiences (amateur and professional), whilst developing the sector in NI by producing an annual celebration of culture and arts. Stendhal is now a national platform as a cultural event.
The Great Big Thank you, an initiative devised and led by the community wing of Stendhal Festival, saw a mass yarn bombing bring colour and life to the town centre in a symbolic showing of gratitude to all those who have put themselves in the front line of the pandemic, so that everyone else can take the necessary precautions and stay as safe as possible.
15 groups in total were involved in the project and members of each organisation turned Limavady into a wooly wonderland on April 23rd.
The community groups involved were; Glenshane Care, L.I.P.S. Limavady initiative for the Prevention of Suicide, Assistance Dogs NI, Cloughmills Crochet Club, Bovalley Community Association, Magilligan Craft Group, Hen’s Shed at LCDI, Roe Valley Residents Association, Causeway U3A, Keady Clachan Rewilding, The Salvation Army, Ballykelly Residents Association, Ballykelly Hen’s Shed,
Limavady Be Safe be Well Men’s Shed and Stendhal Festival.
The installation was the largest of its kind that Limavady had ever seen. As part of the project children were encouraged to use their creative and literacy skills to create artwork to show thanks to someone that helped them over the lockdown period.
Since 2012 Stendhal Festival has delivered community events, workshops and volunteering opportunities in Limavady. Our work is needed now more than ever and we want to find out how we can benefit the local community even more.
Please take some time to fill out our questionnaire as it helps us to focus our community work where it is needed most.
