Irish songsmith David Keenan had a spectacular year in 2018 and 2019 has continued in the same vain.
Since making his Stendhal Debut at the Henry McCullough Stage last year (Broadcast live by the BBC), David has gone on to play stellar shows at Festivals like Electric Picnic and Lollapalooza and also land high profile support slots with the likes of The Hothouse Flowers, Glen Hansard and Hozier.
Creating and inner world through narrative songwriting while leaving the door slightly ajar for us to enter and act out scenes, his live shows have been described as visceral, spiritual and communal events where Keenan moves between a man and his guitar monologue to fronting a band whose sound acts only as a carrier for the songs, further solidifying their intent.
At odds with the music of the age, compressed as it is to an inch beyond its death, Keenan’s music beguiles you in, his lyrics akin to half-remembered barroom wisdom, that, days later, suddenly makes epiphanic sense.
