Brand New Friend first came to us last year via the excellent Chordblossom Kickstart Competition and have since blossomed into one of the most popular bands to be currently plying their trade in Northern Ireland.
Joining us this year as part of the OH Yeah Centre’s Line-up which celebrates their 10th anniversary, this uplifting quartet have had quite the wild ride over the last 12 months.
Fronted by siblings Taylor and Lauren Johnson, the band released their debut EP in the summer, led by the 2 minute instant classic American Wives, and immediately found themselves the talk of Belfast.
The track found its way to Phil Taggart at Radio One, who played it on his show several times, with other radio support coming from Huw Stephens on Radio 1 & Tom Robinson at BBC 6 Music, alongside new music stalwarts Across The Line on BBC Radio Ulster.
Tipped by the Irish Mirror to be one of THE bands to look out for in 2017, Brand New Friend have been playing incendiary shows across Ireland, being singled out by media for their performances at Dublin’s One’s To Watch Festival and at Outlook Festival in Belfast.
Taylor Johnson is one of those songwriters, the type who can effortlessly roll out tune after tune. Their debut EP featured 5 slices of instant pop, 2017 will see a string of releases that take Brand New Friend to a new level.
